On May 23, 2012, at 6:30 PM, Dr. William Sanders will present a lecture entitled “The nature of lichens” in the main auditorium at the Naples Botanical Garden.

Dr. Sanders is a botanist and lichen specialist who serves as a faculty member at Florida Gulf Coast University. During his presentation he will summarize diverse aspects of lichens, including the lichen symbiosis (which involves algae and fungi), lichen morphology, and lichen reproduction. In nonurban settings lichens constitute a conspicuous component of the Florida landscape.
