W.O.N.D.E.R.

Saturdays & Sundays at 10:30 am in the Smith Children’s Garden

Come and join us for our W.O.N.D.E.R. in the Garden program! Together we will imagine, create, and explore throughout the Vicky C. and David Byron Smith Children’s Garden with lessons and activities about a monthly theme. No prior registration necessary. All W.O.N.D.E.R programs are included with regular Garden admission

Monthly themes

June: Art Naturally

Expand your creativity by exploring the garden in a whole new way! Discover the relationship between science and art through observing the many colors and textures displayed in the Smith Children’s Garden. Then, learn more about the color wheel and create your own watercolor masterpiece to take home.

July: Worm Wranglers

Catch a case of the ‘wiggles’ this July as we learn more about our composting companions: worms! Dig into some soil science and discover how worm activities nourish our plants. Explore a day in the life of a worm and even try your hand at mud painting!

August: Florida’s Flora

Lace up your hiking boots and explore seven native Florida habitats right here in the Smith Children’s Garden! Join us this month as we meet the amazing plants that create Florida’s unique ecosystems, learn about how they’ve adapted to life in the Sunshine State, and plant Coreopsis, Florida’s state wildflower, to take home.

September: Mangroves and Stormy Weather

Did you know that mangrove habitats protect Florida’s coastline from damaging wind, rain, and currents caused by storms? Indeed, their dense root system not only acts as a barrier between the sea and the mainland, but also provides refuge to wildlife. In this program, learn more about these unique habitats and how they interact with Florida’s stormy weather.

October: Super Seeds

Have you ever planted a seed and waited patiently to see that first little sprout of green pop up above the soil? Even the smallest of seeds contains all that it needs to develop into a full-grown plant and produce seeds of its own. This October, discover the magic of seeds as we discuss where they come from, where they go, and what they need to grow. Then, plant a seed to care for at home!
