DESCRIPTION:In this hands-on workshop\, participants will contribute to the making of Lauren Shapiro’s installation\, What is Gathered Remains\, at Naples Botanical Garden. Drawing from the Garden’s seed bank\, a living archive of plant species native to Florida and the Caribbean\, participants will cut and arrange motifs onto special kiln paper\, building compositions inspired by the textures and forms of specific plants from the collection. These kiln paper collages will then be fired\, transforming each participant’s design into cast glass tiles that compose the final sculptures. \n\n\n\nWorkshop Details\n\n\n\nDates offered: \n\n\n\n\nNovember 14\, 10am – 12pm\n\n\n\nNovember 15\, 10am – 12pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree for Members / $27 Non-Members\, includes Garden admission \n\n\n\n\nRegistration Coming Soon\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist\n\n\n\nLauren Shapiro (b.1984) is an artist and explorer who lives and works in Miami\, Florida. She integrates ceramics and technology to communicate insights from the natural world\, often collaborating with scientists to influence projects that highlight the diverse ecosystems of South Florida and beyond. She received her MFA from the University of Miami in 2016 and has received awards and commission from prestigious institutions like the Knight Foundation and the Andy Warhol Foundation. Her work has been exhibited internationally and exists in Soho House Art Collection and Jorge M. Perez Collection.
